Algonquin Joe
Here lie the remains of a native man, known to the
world as Algonquin Joe. He lived in and traveled this land
in generations past, knew her secrets, and dwelt as one with
all living things of this forest.
The loggers, white trappers, and his fellow natives knew
him to be a man of great honesty, who respected
the rights and property of others.
Although he was a great hunter and fisherman, he was
kind to all woods animals.
He made his campfires in the last years of his life
on this Island, in the heart of his beloved country.
Drop a fallen leaf on his grave each time you pass,
to honour his spirit and the presence of the
Great Spirit in all things.
