Where is Pathfinder?

Pathfinder seen on a late June day.

Camp Pathfinder is located on Pathfinder Island, Source Lake, in Algonquin Provincial Park, Ontario’s oldest and largest park. Campers age 7-16 attend from Ontario, Quebec, a dozen U.S. states, and several foreign countries. Camp transport is provided to and from Rochester, Buffalo and Toronto, including airport service at Toronto's Pearson International. Many families make the drive to Pathfinder from their homes in Ontario, Quebec and the U.S. The drive from Buffalo, NY is under 5 hours.

Maintained in rustic simplicity since 1914, Pathfinder Island shelters her campers in  a beautiful arrangement of traditional cabins and tent lodges beneath mature pines and hardwoods. The use of modern technology is extrememly restricted at Pathfinder, giving everyone a chance to have an authentic experience of the Island and Algonquin Park in this unique back country setting.

The Island in autumn, seen from the Park plane.

"I miss a loon’s call at dusk, the sputtering light of a Coleman, rinsing off soap with a plunge into Source Lake, scrubbing a wrinkled pot spotless, splitting cedar, starting one-match fires in rainy weather, running [the portage] to dip a tin cup into cool water. I miss watching three brilliant red approach from the horizon… nine paddles lifting in silent rhythm, flashing in the sun."  -John Herman (1960s)
