Keewaydin Girls' Tripping Program
Check out the girls' tripping program at
Keewaydin Temagami ...
Dear Pathfinder Friends and Families,
We are filled with pleasure at the opportunity Mike Sladden has provided to say hello and introduce Keewaydin Wilderness Canoe Trips for Girls to you all. Founded in 1893, and located on Devil's Island on Lake Temagami Ontario since 1903, Keewaydin has always had a focus on safe and fun wilderness canoe trips, with a minimal base camp program. Our all-girls program allows girls the chance to be themselves and grow as they meet the challenges of wilderness canoe tripping in a safe and supportive environment.
Our sessions are 3 and 6 weeks long for girls aged 10-13.
Three week campers will take a 5-night and a 9-night trip in the Temagami region, paddling to and from our island base camp.
For girls 14 and older (our oldest campers are 18 or even 19 years old) we run 6 week sessions.
For 14-15 year olds there is a base camp session with 4-, 10- and 21-night trips.
As campers grow older, stronger, and their skills increase we have trips that are more remote, using our Evans Outpost in Western Ontario as a base, or traveling northern Ontario and Quebec using settlements and airplanes for re-outfits.
Our longest trip is a 7-week trip to Hudson Bay and is the culminating experience for our girls.
Our trips are single sex, with our girls being led by all female staff. many of whom are graduates of our program and college aged or beyond. We believe our staff is our greatest strength and that our female trip leaders are among the most experienced and best qualified in the camping business.
We could go on and on about our programs, the wilderness in which we travel and the valuable lessons to be learned by young women in the wilderness. But instead we invite you to click over to our web page to view our "Welcome Pathfinder" blog and our website where the pictures and the videos will tell the story far more completely than we can here.
Warmly,
Bruce Ingersoll and Emily Schoelzel
