Suggested Canoe Builders, Outfitters
Hurley Canoe Works (fine wood-canvas canoes)
Dwight, Ontario
http://www.greenval.com/hurley.html
Jack Hurley and assistant Graham England, both Pathfinder alumni, build and restore Camp Pathfinder's beautiful fleet of wood-canvas trip canoes. Private customers from around the world seek out Hurley's workshop in Dwight to place their own orders.
More than half the fun of having your dream canoe built or restored here is visiting the shop in Dwight, crammed with 3,000 photographs and alive with the work and words of Jack Hurley. It doesn't hurt that the quality of materials and workmanship are the finest to be found in Ontario. Hurley canoes are simply the best for the serious tripper.

Rich Swift is an active alumnus of Pathfinder, who grew up tripping with Sladds and Glenn at a time when his dad Bill Swift Sr. owned Pathfinder and was just starting Algonquin Outfitters. "AO" is today the premiere spot for canoe trip outfitting and gear. Pathfinder parents often consult AO for gear for their sons, and Pathfinder offers life vests and sleeping bags at cost to parents, in association with the Outfitters.

Bill Swift Jr. runs the company. Billy is also a Pathfinder alumnus, and builds our ABS Royalex trip canoes for far-flung river adventures. The Swift Dumoine and Yukon are two models that make sense for high-volume, long distance out trips.
Suggested Algonquin Park Camps for Girls
There are several excellent co-ed camps in Algonquin, including Taylor-Statten (Camp Wapomeo), Camp Tamakwa, and Camp Arowhon. For all-girls camps, try:
Camp Northway Lodge (girls)
Algonquin Park, Ontario
http://www.campnorthway.com/
Brookes Prewitt (Pathfinder alumnus) and wife Joan run Ontario's oldest camp for girls just a few lakes down the Madawaska from Pathfinder. Northway turns 100 years old this summer! With a traditional flavor, an emphasis on simple living in Algonquin, and a focus on wilderness canoe trips, Northway is a fine choice for families of Pathfinder boys seeking a similar experience for their daughters. The camp size is small at 50 girls per session, and the gorgeous site on Cache Lake is preserved in its perfect primitive state.
Camp Tanamakoon (girls)
Algonquin Park, Ontario
http://www.tanamakoon.com/
Kim and Marilyn Smith, along with Camp Director Patti Thom run Camp Tanamakoon, on Tanamakoon Lake, just a couple of portages south of Pathfinder. Another fine girls' camp, Tan. is larger than Northway at about 190 girls per session, and offers a diverse camp program which does include canoe tripping.
